Another Spider!
![]()
Toronto 1994, jpeg from video via Snappy, made by Dave Hrynkiw. I really had the idea for the Spider mechanism all by myself - no outside inspiration or examples at all. But when I showed the preliminary drawings to the BEAMers, Dave Hrynkiw ( Solarbotics) yelled:
"I saw EXACTLY the same sort of robot at the BEAM Games in Toronto in '94(?)"He was supported by Richard Weait:
Dave's right (of course :-) ) about the spider at BEAM - '94. I think it was Rob from Ottawa (?) It was powered through a tether, and skittered along on golf-ball-like feet. It was pretty quick, but I believe it was run by switches trough the tether. Forward and reverse only, if I recall correctly. I trust Rob (?) has carried the design further since then. The designer's name is actually Mark Lanthier. He calls his `bot the Creeper, and it can be found on this page, which also shows a few other, multimotor critters and a rope-climbing device.
